We're not nearly responsible enough to have any pets, yet alone children. We do keep some plants, and most of them have survived. Our plants are all very responsible and self-reliant. We have left them alone in the apartment for weeks at a time, and they have never thrown any wild parties, ran up large long-distance bills, or died. I think this makes them better than children and most pets.

Edwie, the eldest This is Edwie, our eldest. Edwie has been around the family for longer than I have. In Edwie's home climate, he goes for months without a hint of rain, and then experiences days of downpours. In order to make him feel at home, we like to ignore him for months, and then when we realize that we can't remember the last time he was watered, over-water him several days in a row. So far, he's enjoying the treatment.

Edwie is the most athletic of our plants. He likes to play basketball and is a star forward on his team. We are very proud of him.

Below (left) is Birnam, one of our newer additions. Birnam was originally part of a larger plant in an office building. The plant-care worker hacked off an over-large branch, and threw it out. A passer-by noticed the cutting, and thought it might be a welcome addition to her home. Rescuing it from the garbage, she left it in a corner, intending to take it home after work. Several weeks later, the cutting was still there, forgotten. My wife brought it home, and stuck it in a pot. This plant has survived for weeks in a dark corner, so it doesn't need light. It regularly goes without water. I'm told that this sort of plant frequently thrives in smoky nightclubs, so it clearly doesn't require air. It's almost as hardy as a plastic plant. Just the sort of plant to live in our house. Birnam often goes out for a beer with his friends, and stays out well past his curfew. When I took this picture he was grounded for coming home drunk, so he's in a really bad snit.

Burnam, the Immortal Michel, the beautiful

To the right of Birnam is our little angel, Michel. Although I'm not supposed to have favorites, I think that Michel is the most beautiful of the bunch.

This is Rapunzel, another treasured member of our family. Rapulzel has been around for almost a long as Edwie. She sings and dances, and hopes to get a role in a play one day. She's our little star! Sweel Rapunzel
Moki, the Robust This is Moki. It was a lot smaller when it came into our house.

The pot was a gift from my sister-in-law.
